Rajinikanth aka Shivaji Rao Gaekwad aka Thalaiva aka superstar has turned a year older today.
The phenomena on screen that has ruled decades after decades has a unique bond with Amitabh Bachchan – his brother, friend guru, inspiration.
Rajinikanth whose career boosted to great heights after he starred in remakes of Amitabh Bachchan blockbusters like Deewaar- Thee, Don- Billa, Amar Akbar Anthony- Shankar Salim Simon, Namak Halal- Velaikkaran to name a few from those more than ten remakes, owes his stardom and his first Hindi release to the megastar the magnificent the one and only Amitabh Bachchan.
The story goes like this
Rajinikanth’s Hindi debut Andhaa Kanoon (1981) the remake of Vijayakanth starrer Sattam Oru Iruttarai (The Law is a Dark Room) was ready.
Andhaa Kaanoon directed by T. Rama Rao – the closely watched Hindi debut of the south sensation called Rajinikanth also starred Hema Malini, Reena Roy along with Pran, Danny Denzongpa, Amrish Puri, Madan Puri and Prem Chopra. Amitabh Bachchan played a very special appearance which later became a major talking point.
Very few people know that Andhaa Kanoon faced serious problems at the Censor Board.
The Censor Board officials were not happy with the way a mockery of law is made in the movie.
Especially the iconic scene where Amitabh Bachchan kills Amrish Puri in the court room right in front of the Judge and lawyers.
Even after killing a person right in front of the Judge, Amitabh Bachchan’s character Jan Nisar Akthar Khan goes scot free.
The makers of Andhaa Kanoon and especially Rajinikanth who was eyeing a dream launch in Hindi cinema where his personal favourite Amitabh Bachchan is making a very special guest appearance where worried.
Amitabh Bachchan at that time was very close to the Gandhi family and Congress was in power.
Finally, Amitabh Bachchan used his clout and got Andhaa Kanoon cleared with an ‘A’ certificate.
Andhaa Kanoon became a super hit and the Hindi speaking audience saw the magic of the phenomenon Rajinikanth.
This is how megastar Amitabh Bachchan helped the superstar Rajinikanth in getting his Hindi (Bollywood) Debut movie released in theatres.
