Ranjish Hi Sahi revolves around a fledgling maverick film director Shankar Vats (Tahir Raj Bhasin) who gets drawn into an extra-marital affair with an eccentric superstar Aamna Parvez (Amala Paul) which changes his life forever.

So Mahesh Bhatt ki kahani chaubara (fourth time) but this time it seems he is coming out from the guilt.

Writer director Pushpdeep Bharadwaj absorbing slow burn screenplay and narration is predominantly old school but the eight episode series captures the love, longing, agony to make an interesting watch.

Tahir Raj Bhasin is modeled on Mahesh Bhatt, Amrita Puri is Kiran Bhatt and Amala Paul is the yesteryears diva Parveen Babi.

Mahesh Bhatt has told his own story before Arth (1982), Phir Teri Kahaani Yaad Aayee (1993), Woh Lamhe (2006).

The perspective of Ranjish Hi Sahi is wider as due to web series it gets more screen time.

While Arth was a story of two woman – Shabana Azmi a   married woman whose husband has left her for the eccentric popular actress Smita Patil (the climax remains my all time favorite).

Phir Teri Kahaani Yaad Aayee and Woh Lamhe are just passable attempts for me.

Ranjish Hi Sahi has that intriguing factor that questions the morality and longevity in relationships.

Performances

The performances are top notch.

Amala Paul as Parveen Babi is excellent in her superb portray of intensity and vulnerability.

Tahir Raj Bhasin is outstanding as the man torn between love, responsibility, trust and duty.

Amrita Puri is splendidly graceful as she gives a refined dignity to her act.

Music

Aabhas & Shreyas and Prashad Sashte soundtrack is really good and moves with the flow. Lyrics by Ravi and Shakeel Azmi are meaningful.

Flaws

How many times Mahesh Bhatt will tell his story?. There are issues of repetition and unnecessarily on and on. The choice for Kabir Bedi, Amitabh Bachchan is so bad.
