Zindaginama Review: A genuienly heart touching and life assuring healer

What: ‘Zindaginama’ - Underlining the importance of mental health and wellness, ‘Zindaginama’ is a heart-felt exploration of people from different social conditioning, different walks of life and different strata of the society but grappled with the varied categories of mental disorders.

Helmed by six brilliant directors who have exhibited immense and diverse understanding of the subjects through their prolific filmmaking prowess, the anthology not only talks about mental illnesses but also offers an inspiring and endearing panacea through the juncture of the endings in each of the stories.

Panacea in the form of hope, determination and resolute emotional strength.

The stories strive to quash the social stigma, deep rooted prejudices and taboos with accurate medical understanding and anthropological aptitude.

Swagatam

Exploring schizophrenia, Sukriti Tyagi crafts a heart-wrenching tale of a man (Shreyas Talpade) in Swagatam grappled with this illness and his wife ( Anjali Patil) juggling between work, her boss(Bolaram Das) tantrums and his concern. Tyagi's astute observations pierce through societal apathy and hostility when his best friends requests his wife not to attend his marriage to avoid embarrassment. A brilliant Talpade grasps the minutest details of the troubled character.

Purple Duniya

In a world cluttered with digital influences like social media and video games, it is easy for one to be lost. Sahaan Hattangadi's Purple Duniya examines the ground concerns around Gaming disorders revealing some startling statistics where Tanmay Dhanania has lost his sanity to this vicious killer. Shruti Seth plays his therapist with a poise.

One Plus One

Prajakta Koli is equally competent in Rakhee Sandilya's One plus One as a girl with eating disorder.Paranoid about food, diet and health, her equation with her mom ( Lilette Dubey) and sister (Yashaswini Dayama) also deteriorates.

Conceptualised by MPower, the social trust wing of the Birla group, Zindaginama creates poignant and heartfelt stories on breaking away from your past and rediscovering your own self. It also emphasizes on one person that you need as a moral anchor in your life.

Caged

Sahaan and Danny Mamik examine Gender Dysphoria in Caged, which is about discovering your real inner identity and the struggle that a transgender forges, Sumit Vyas and Mohd. Samad render mature and intuitive performances.

Bhanwar

I loved each of the six pieces of fiction. But my favourite was Bhanwar ! I didn't know Aditya Sarpotdar has got so much talent in him! The ‘Munjya’ and ‘Kakuda’ director helms one of the most complex episodes focused on PTSD which in turn reflects his prowess and wonderful finesse! Shweta Basu Prasad throws herself deep into the psyche of the character grappled with haunting experiences of the past.

Sarpotdar surrounds her with a talented ensemble - Priya Bapat, Daya Shankar Panday and Swaroopa Ghosh and Alka Amin, with touches of an unmistakably raw and rural setting.
