Mithya review: Brilliantly performed & startling
What: Mithya is a startling psychological thriller elevated by Huma S Qureshi’s brilliance and Avantika Dassani’s terrific debut.

Juhi (Huma Qureshi) a Hindi literature university professor one day accuses her student Rhea Rajguru (Avantika Dassani) for plagiarism.
Rhea Rajguru is unable to accept this allegation and this difference between the teacher and the student leads to into an unexpected and shocking conflict between Juhi and Rhea resulting in disturbing, unexpected web of events.
As Juhi and Rhea engage in a head-to-head psychological combat, the situation takes snaky turns and gets more dark and dangerous.
Presented by Applause Entertainment and produced by A Rose Audio Visuals Production, Mithya – the six episode series created by Goldie Behl & Priya Jhavar and directed by Rohan Sippy begins on a bang on note when Juhi and Rhea are confronting each other in a lock up.
The game is set, beginning on an intense note and engagingly dribbling with dark, psychological tones. The constantly gripping screenplay by Althea Kaushal and Anvita Dutt invites the audience to be part of Mihya throughout while Rohan Sippy’s taut direction ensures that momentum is not dipped.
Huma Qureshi as Juhi is a stand out once again after Maharani. As the Hindi literature university professor fighting her own inner demons and getting confronted by an arrogant student Rhea, Huma gives the required dignity, vulnerability and humanity to her portrayal.
Avantika Dassani as Rhea is terrific in her debut. A dream role for any new comer that has slight traces of Poison Ivy, Avantika Dassani enjoys her field day as Rhea. A talent to watch out for.
Parambrata Chatterjee as Neil is fine. Rajit Kapur as Anand Juhi’s father is superb. Good support comes from Indraneil Sengupta as Vishal, Avantika Akerkar as Sudha and Samir Soni as Rajguru – Rhea’s father.
The character of Neil played by Parambrata Chatterjee is shaky and not entirely convincing. Some more dimensions to Rhea;s character were required to add more interest.
Mithya is expertly performed taut psychological thriller. It hits the right note, surprises with its startling disclosures. A perfect binge watch for the lover’s of dark, psychological genres. Do catch Mithya on ZEE5.
