Loot Kaand review: Takes you on a rollercoaster ride!
What: ‘Loot Kaand’ takes you on a roller coaster ride with plethora of thrills, action and a tinge of dark comedy involving petty cash, Pahelis and Purulia.
Loot Kaand synopsis
Desperation and deception collide when the siblings Latika and Palash, played by Tanya Maniktala and Sahil Mehta, orchestrate a daring bank heist after landing on the verge of financial jeopardy. But things go dreadfully when their unlikely accomplice becomes an unfortunate victim in the whole game.
The ticket to freedom that they set out on soon spirals into a deadly game, rife with gangsters, law enforcement officers, and unseen enemies lurking in the shadows. As the nose tightens around Latika and Palash, one thing that becomes clear from the drama is that there’s never an easy way out to succeed.
Showrunner Saurav Dey and director Ruchir Arun elevate the drama and tension with a brisk narrative that encompasses emotions and moral dilemmas while keeping the audience at the edge of the seats. ‘Loot Kaand’ derives its drive and dopamine from the high-stakes action and chases and the unlikely bonding between the siblings who are caught in the myriad plot twists that keep you intrigued consistently.
With a fascinating repertoire of shows that includes ‘Tabbar’, ‘Made in Heaven Guilty’, ‘Farrey’ and ‘Good Luck Jerry’, Sahil Mehta plays Palash with panache without a hint of affectation while complimenting Tanya, an actress known for her spontaneity and resplendent presence. Her Latika is fierce and flawed and in a constant struggle with herself to break free.
Scripted by a team of three writers Shamil Sen Gupta and Aman Mannan, Loot Kaand fleshes its characters with dollops of genuineness – they feel real, caught in the warp of circumstances.
A crackling camaraderie between a school master with a knack for cracking puzzles, Pinaki (Gyanendra Tripathi) and his bumbling buddy Batul (Akash Sinha) who works for a Arms dealer, Burman (Brij Bhushan Shukla) and his sassy wife, Paro (Ronjini Chakravorty) with a corrupt cop, Dhar (Nitin NS Goel) bring heft to the drama of petty cash unfolding in Purulia.
Gyanendra and Sinha who revive their on-screen bro-code after the poignant drama ‘Baarah by Baarah’ are in great form in this swashbuckling thriller. Newcomer Mihika Vasavada has performed very well.
Loot Kaand review – final words
But the series loses its steam in the final episode, settling for an underwhelming and predictable climax. The ending could have been made tighter and gripping, and the closure feels tad convenient. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be investing in Loot Kaand, because it offers a shock as well.
I go with 3.5 stars out of 5 for Loot Kaand. The six episode series, produced by Drishyam Films and N20 Films is streaming on Amazon MX Player from 20th March 2025.
