Moving ahead in to and fro format from season 1. While of the episodes of Kaali season 1 where named after the different forms of Goddess Kali - Kali, Pitambari, Tara, Kamala, Bhuvaneshwari, Matangi, Dhumavati, Bhairavi. The Season 2 is named after situations/circumstances and how the power of Kali adapts to such challenges like Agyaata – The Exile, Sankata – The crises, Kaalraatri – The long dark night. Chatusha-path – The crossroads, Matri – The Mother, Prastaava – The Proposal, Rupvikra – The Metamorphorsis, and finally Mukti – The Freedom.
As the story unfolds with Barun Bose’s involving background score, the series created and directed by Arita Sen and Rohan Ghose takes it snaky turns that offers a tribute to those lurid thrillers by the doctors like Brian De Palma and so on.
Created by Arita Sen and Rohan Ghose on a story by Arita Sen with screenplay by Rohan Ghose(also Hindi dialogues), Konark Mukherjee and Reetrashi Dutta, the most striking feature of Kaali 2 is that the writer director team never deviates from the standards set in the first season.
Paoli Dam once again makes a statement. With her eyes speaking in volumes, the actress superlatively portrays the women who can go at any lengths to save her son in a haunting performance.
Other actors do chip in with solid support. Chak De fame Vidya Malvade spins a surprise, the versatile Chandan Roy Sanyal is perfectly restrained while Pataal Lok fame Abhishek Banerjee justifies his tag of the new menace in town.
Flaws
Rahul Banerjee soon turns unfit for the role and is a major drawback. The character has shades, but the actor is flat.
Bottomline
ZEE5 Kaali 2 showcases Paoli Dam as a kick ass mother who fights all odds for her son. Its thrilling, its captivating and haunting do catch at once.
