Half Love Half Arranged review: A quirky tale on modern love and arranged dating

What: Half Love Half Arranged - Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham. What happens to you when your life and career plans that you stick on your wall go awry? You hit an all-time mental low? You don’t feel like living anymore? Or, you become desperate for revenge and rebound? Well. Miss Riya has all the answers.

Half Love Half Arranged review

Welcome to the world of Riya Tanwar (Maanvi Gagroo), a millennial gynaecologist who is coming in terms with life after her break up with her long-term BF on the eve of her 30th birthday.

The series follows Riya as she immerses herself in the world of 'arranged dating,' followed by her pursuit for love. She finds herself trapped in a circus of bad matches, matchmakers, and her family, comprising her parents (Supriya Shukla and Amit Singh Thakur), her aunty (played by Grusha Kapoor) and sister, to find the one to settle down with.

Riya is continually encouraged by her friends throughout her journey, who beautifully illustrate the value of friends among young people. The series immerses you in an intriguing story about love and modern relationships that will keep you captivated to the screen.

Directed by Simarpreet Singh (who also plays Riya’s ex), the show navigates the antics of the boisterous Tanwar family of Rajouri Garden, Delhi who are equally part of Riya’s misadventures and quest in finding Mr. Right through quirky matrimonial meetups, chaos and confusion.

Rom-coms have been traditionally successful with the Indian audience and here, the source material written by a team of 4 writers – Shruti Bharadwaj, Gaurav Karpoor, Simarpreet and Deeba Khan, infuses ample quirks and fun to keep the viewer on the roll. The scenarios seem to have been pulled out straight from real life – with nosy moms, poky neighbours and trouble-creating friends (Kaminey dosts). The subplots feature Riya's childhood friends, Arf Iqbal (Pulkit Makol) and Tanvi (Shruti Jolly).

Keeping up the marriage drama, the series provides an exploration of a cherished North Indian culture. This show is all about the ups and downs of marriage in India, from the crazy moments every other minute to the romantic love story. It's got something for everyone.

With the motto of ‘My Life, My Rules’, Riya is on a self-exploration journey, learning to balance her personal and professional life. She's stuck in the middle of society's standards with people around her pressuring her to get married. Soon Riya decides to follow her own plan of life, which led her to learn how important it is to accept change. Riya’s journey will inspire viewers to live life fully and not let society tell you how to live. Maanvi imbues Riya with an unmistakable vulnerability and confidence of a modern-day girl who doesn’t have qualms about her frailties.

Karan Wahi, as Jogi, lends significant support to Maanvi. They looking adorable as ever, embark on a love-filled journey of self-exploration, and finding their perfect match. The duo is being seen together on-screen for the first time, and viewers will be all heart-eyes for them. Karan’s charming personality and Maanvi’s beautiful smile in their new love story makes us smile and keep us entertained with lots of fun moments.
