Gyaarah Gyaarah review: Kritika Kamra, Raghav Juyal and Dhairya Karwa shine in a coxing juxtapose of past and present

What: ‘Gyaarah Gyaarah’the Indian adaptation of the 2016 Korean sensation ‘Signal’ by ‘Pagglait’ fame director Umesh Bist starring Kritika Kamra, Raghav Juyal and Dhairya Karwa is coxing and engulfing with impressive acts.

Gyaarah Gyaarah web series synopsis

Police officer well versed with criminal profiling Yug Arya (Raghav Juyal) finds a mysterious walkie talkie which operates without battery. The mysterious walkie talkie at 11:11 pm strangely and unbelievably connects with Inspector Shaurya (Dhairya Karwa) from the past – 1998 and addresses him by calling his name. surprisingly, Yug and Shaurya are from different era and have never met.

Yug with the help of Shaurya solves an old pending case. Interestingly, Yug has some childhood memories of this particular case and Yug’s boss – senior Police officer Vamika Rawat (Kritika Kamra) has a past related with Inspector Shaurya.

The success of this weird, strange conversation between Shaurya and Yug via this non battery walkie talkie gets more and more dangerous as ‘time’ takes the challenge.

What happens next?

Gyaarah Gyaarah web series review

Based on the super hit 2016 South Korean crime drama ‘Signal’, the Indian adaptation is directed by Umesh Bisht (‘Pagglait’ previous) and written by Puja Banerji and Sunjoy Shekhar, the Indianized version as the original does make us wonder and shiver on the thought of changing the past and its aftermath – the good and the bad.

‘Wish I could have done this that day’ ‘if this has not happened that day’ we all go through this feeling quite often. And how many of us do prefer to stay in present without bothering about the future and not haunted by the good and bad memories of the past.

A line in the series supports the Einstein perception of times, he said, “People like us who believe in physics know that the distinction between past, present, and future is only a stubbornly persistent illusion.” In other words, time is an illusion”.

‘Gyaarah Gyaarah’ is built on this seed of thought and coins it with mystery, drama and human tendencies. In simple words ‘Gyaarah Gyaarah’ gets its edge and extra thrills with this supernatural time travel effect. It’s a pure drama thriller with an added message on time.

The eight-episode series have characters dealing with faith, fate, trust and betrayal with ‘time’ steering the life vehicle.

There is no social commentary or any other layer apart from the time factor and ‘Gyaarah Gyaarah’ does demand a certain level of acceptance to feel its thrills. If anyone who is not able to digest how can two people from past and present talk via dead/no battery walkie talkie at a set time that changes lives for them ‘Gyaarah Gyaarah’ can be unconvincing.

I am saying this because the writer director have failed to explain fully on what powers this strange conversation between Yug and Shaurya to happen.

Otherwise, ‘Gyaarah Gyaarah’ scores in it thrills, mystery and drama drawing the viewer closer to the characters and making them feel for them. The writing is interesting and the narration keeps you hooked throughout. The atmosphere is as per the requirement of the genre.

The actors have performed splendidly

Technically polished. Director of Photography Kuldeep Mamania sets the tone exceptionally well as a haunting thriller to drama. Sequences in day and night bring pushes the interest level further. ‘Gyaarah Gyaarah’ – final words

It may be weird, but becomes increasingly interesting as ‘time’ passes second after second. Nicely crafted and acted, ‘Gyaarah Gyaarah’ is a perfect binge watch crime thriller that has its dark, mystical and psychological elements from ‘time’ to ‘time’.
