Bada Naam Karenge review

SonyLIV

Another solid proof that when it comes to desi Hindustani family oriented Prem Kahani with all that colours, grandeurs, sparkling mansions etc, nobody does the way Sooraj Barjatya does. Because in all that richness of beautifully decorated mandaps, mandirs etc, there is a continuous current of simplicity that connects with every Indian no matter what their economic status is.

And that is the major difference between the Bollywood on-screen affluent families like those we see from Karan Johar’s Dharma productions for example and affluent families of Rajshri productions – value system and connectivity.

‘Bada Naam Karenge’ is not about having a ground breaking story or ground breaking narrative techniques, it’s about how rooted is your story and how well it connects to the core.

‘Bada Naam Karenge’ directed by Sony LIV’s evergreen quirky family blockbuster Gullak fame Palash Vaswani and it has the right allure and trappings to satisfy the quintessential Indian family.

In the era of multiple viewing options, still the charm of watching cinema or series/serials with families is very much alive. The aam junta will wait for something like ‘RRR’ or ‘Pushpa’ to go to theatres but something like ‘Bada Naam Karenge’ is anytime perfect for Indian family on TV and of course OTT.

Showrunner Sooraj Barjatya who makes his OTT debut is very much aware of the sensibilities required in such a family show and he along with the director Palash Vaswani and the writers S. Manasvi and Vidit Tripathi keep you engaged through all the nine episodes.

‘Bada Naam Karenge’ benefits from its heartfelt moments, the chemistry between Ritik and Ayesha, the camaraderie between Ayesha and her father played by Jameel Khan, the aura of respect surrounding the Rathi’s and the powerful pre climax followed by a cheering climax.

Performance

Ritik Ghanshani as Rishabh Rathi is rightly cast, the ambitious young lad from the affluent Rathi family is flawed, vulnerable at times, but rooted and has the value system dep intact. Ritik gives proper justice to his role and fits into the skin of the character with ease. The actor wins the heart of the audience with his adorable charm.

Ayesha Kaduskar as Surbhi Gupta emerges as the right choice for the role. Portraying the girl from Ujjain rooted in her value system, focused and understanding human being. Ayesha caries the role of Surbhi beautifully, her camaraderie with Jameel who plays her father and her chemistry with Ritik is adorable.

Kanwaljeet Singh as the righteous Tauji – the soft-spoken patriarch is fantastic. Rajesh Jais as dutybound brother and father of Rishabh has his moments.

Jameel Khan as Surbhi’s father is fabulous. Rajesh Tailang as the typical Fufa brings the twist and he is too good.

Anjana Sukhani as Rishabh’s bua makes her mark.

Good support chips in from Alka Amin, Chitrali Lokesh, Deepika Amin, Sadhika Sayal, Gyanendra Tripathi, Priyamvada Kant, Omm Dubey, Bhavesh Babani, and others.
