Aarya Season 3 - Antim Vaar review: deserved a much better closure!
What : Aarya Season 3 - Antim Vaar - Ram Madhvani and his co-directors Kapil Sharma and Shradhha Jairath construct a cliched and convenient finale.
Aarya Antim Vaar synopsis
Disney plus Hotstar flagship web series Aarya launched the final four episodes of the Aarya Season 3 - Antim Vaar continuing with the trend of holding our excitement for the grand finale like it did for The Night Manager, Criminal Justice etc. Cobbled in the world of dangerous family business and ominous karmic connections, Aarya stands emotionally battered and physically bruised in her battle against the odds and rivals. The last episode ended with Aarya getting shot on her chest. Aarya Season 3 - Antim Vaar ticks from there, taking you through what transpired two weeks earlier.
After Suraj, Aarya is in the grips of her new nemesis, the heroin dealer Nalini Sahiba (played by Ila Arun) and the Russian drug mafia with ACP Mr. Khan (Vikas Kumar) standing as a formidable hurdle between her and the peace of mind. While police have seized Aarya’ drug consignment, her children – Veer, Aru and Adi have drifted away from her and she is labelled as a bad mother. To add to her woes, the youngest child Adi might have to shift to a children's welfare home for a ‘normal’ upbringing.
Speaking particularly about the child welfare episode, Sushmita scorches the scene like a raging lioness in a bid to protect her child. The way she pounces on the lady official on duty is truly commendable. Sen is fiery and earnest in her portrayal of a wronged character, navigating the different shades and shifts in tonality but the writing lets her down. Sushmita Sen fights the battle like a lone and wounded warrior. Sen, although mellowed down and saddled with a singularly pitched and modulated voice, is sincere and does justice to the part of the fearless mother who can go to any level to protect her family. Vikas Kumar, who exudes an inherent sense of decency from his persona is equally good.
Ram Madhvani and his co-directors Kapil Sharma and Shradhha Jairath construct a cliched and convenient finale, which resembles a typical and predictable Bollywood masala potboiler with an overdose of religious chantings and annoying reminders that nothing is more important than loyalty in business. However, the actors surrounding the protagonists are in good form – including Vishwajeet Pradhan playing the hot-headed and trigger-happy Sampath and Sikander Kher playing Daulat embarking on the path of reform and seeking retribution from Aarya. Geetanjali Kulkarni as Sushila is criminally wasted.
Aarya Season 3 - Antim Vaar – final words
For more than 3 years, Aarya’s sumptuous crime drama ensured a good feast, but the finale deserved more meat for closing the complex web of deceit and betrayals. The climactic action also is an underwhelming let-down.
I go with 2.5 stars out of 5 for Aarya Season 3 - Antim Vaar. The 4-part finale is streaming exclusively on Disney+ Hotstar from 9th February 2024
