Malikappuram revolves around an eight-year-old girl named Kalyani and her journey to Sabarimala, the abode of Lord Ayyappa. This is a film made entirely for family audiences. The audience is given a glimpse into the devotion and innocence of a child's mind in the film, which has been directed by debutant Vishnu Sasi Sankar.
Malikappuram is a reinterpretation of the concept of God that evokes the virtue of a pilgrimage for both those who are familiar with Sabarimala and those who are not. Child actors Devanandana and Sripad Yan deliver stellar performances in the film. Besides them, the film's most awe-inspiring presence is Unni Mukundan as a Swami, who is trekking to Sabarimala.
