Mumbai-based Civic Studios has now launched an original mini web series ‘Ye Saali Naukri’ on its YouTube channel, Pocket Change and on the streaming platform MX Player. Revolving around the 24-yr old protagonist Raviranjan, played by Actor-Influencer Sanyam Sharma, the series takes its viewers through the tumultuous preparation and examination process that most young government job aspirants are put through, overlapping with his personal struggles that threaten to derail his ambitions. Directed by the Channel head of Pocket Change, stand-up comedian and writer, Kaviraj Singh , ‘Ye Saali Naukri’ features Mugdha Agarwal as Sanyam’s reel-life love and is written by Somnath Karmakar along with Kaviraj himself.
Striking a balance between comic adaptation and realistic emotional portrayals, the four episodes Rangbaaz, Parishram, Avroh and Prateeksha highlight loopholes in the current examination system and how lakhs of aspirants like Raviranjan struggle in the face of inordinate societal pressure. While Rangbaaz chronicles the lead character’s carefree persona, Parishram showcases the sheer effort he makes in a bid to secure his marriage. Avroh steers through the disappointment and resentment while Prateeksha is centered on self doubt.
Speaking on his first directorial venture, Kaviraj Singh adds "Ye Saali Naukri is our attempt to capture the sentiments around the dire state of unemployment in our country. Our agenda was to stay true to an average Indian youth's chase for a government job and the roller coaster of emotions that come with it- ranging from friendly banter to heartbreaking tears, from togetherness to loneliness, from failing to fly to rising again. Another key element was to avoid showcasing a tier-2 setting in a stereotypical way, but to celebrate its vibrancy. We are confident viewers will resonate with the show's fresh perspective on India's relationship with the sought-after 'sarkaari naukri'.”
‘Ye Saali Naukri’ will undoubtedly appeal to its target audience of young Indian millennials who are seeking employment opportunities, and especially those who have undergone the same process of preparing for government job entrance exams.
