Bhuj: The Pride of India review: I was not expecting a comedy
What: The competition for the worst of 2021 gets hotter with this war comedy drama after Radhe.
Bhuj: The Pride of India movie synopsis
Set during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, it follows Indian Air Force Squadron Leader Vijay Karnik (Ajay Devgn) then in-charge of the Bhuj Air Force Base. The movie is the story of the incredible valour of those 300 local women under the leadership of Sunderben Jetha Madharparya ( Sonakshi Sinha) who reconstructed the damaged landing strip of the Bhuj air base runaway in 72 hours under the guidance of Squadron Leader Vijay Karnik.
Bhuj: The Pride of India movie review
Yes, agreed many of us are not aware of this great effort by those 300 women which makes Bhuj: The Pride of India actually a story of these 300 women brave hearts. But Abhishek Dudhaiya with his team of four writers including him - Raman Kumar, Ritesh Shah and Pooja Bhavoria couldn,t give even three forget three even a single scene of triumph.
What was happening, this weird group of writers and this director Abhishek Dudhaiya has made a joke of those 300 women, Indian Air Force and pardon me some may not like this but our enemy nation forever – Pakistan.
Yaar, why you make jokers of the soldiers/ warriors of your nation and don’t even spare the enemy nation as well.
We have censorship for vulgar content, excessive sex, violence and things that hurt religious sentiments, why don’t we have a separate censorship for such degradation of real war sagas on screen in the name of chest beating jingoism.
I call it fake patriotism. Bhuj: The Pride of India is an irritating case of all round fakery right from first frame.
Ajay Devgn is horribly miscast as Squadron Leader Vijay Karnik (Ajay Devgn), true fans of Ajay Devgn should skip this movie.
Sanjay Dutt is a caricature as Ranchordas Pagi moving freely between the Indo Pak borders as walking from Kandivali to Borivali in Mumbai. We are told he is an Indian Army Scout and man he kills hundreds of the Pak soldiers without getting a single scratch. Even does a Sunny Deol from Border by jumping on the tanker. Poor Baba, I started laughing at the intended comedy instead of feeling any pride or thrill.
And now Ajayji aka Ajay Devgn, the ‘lead’ actor and one of the main producer. Sidelined by that gutsy Guajarati Sunderben (Sonakshi Sinha), crazy Pagi (Sanjay Dutt) on the war front, poor ‘hero’ of this fake war drama, Devgn gets something like a toy gun to combat those Pak fighter planes. What a pity. Producer and lead actor ke haath mein khilona de diya director Abhishek Dudhaiya ne.
Par iski saza audience ko kyu… anyways some real action does happen and it is done by Mohatarma Nora Fatehi.
Nora belly dancing ki jagah flying kicks maar rahi hai, Singham is firing with a toy gun, Sonakshi Sinha is killing a tiger with one single strike of a sickle with an accent that makes you giggle. Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj aka Sharad Kelkar is caught in the middle having no clue.
Shoo shoo send the monkeys back to Zoo.
Talking about the VFX and the ‘action’ scenes in unintended war comedy will give the makers complex from a toddler who loves video games.
And Ammy Virk’s character challenges your limit of suspension of disbelief.
Final words
Those who have still not watched Bhuj: The Pride of India should start counting their blessings.
