Legendary Tabla maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain has breathed his last. As per reports, Ustad Zakir Hussain was facing blood pressure issues and was admitted to a hospital in San Francisco earlier today. Unfortunately, Ustadji’s health condition deteriorated and he passed away. Ustad Zakir Hussain was 73.

Padma Bhushan Ustad Zakir Hussain - Tabla player, percussionist, composer, former actor, and the son of legendary Tabla player, Ustad Allah Rakha was a globally acclaimed tabla master, known for his outstanding contributions to Indian classical and world music.

Ustad Zakir Hussain a child prodigy was born on 9 March 1951 in Mumbai. Ustad Zakir Hussain started performing at the age of seven and brought table to the global platform.

The sad demise of the table mastero Ustad Zakir Hussain has sent shock waves around the country and amongst music lovers.

Ustad Zakir Hussain in 1970, co-founded the fusion group Shakti alongside guitarist John McLaughlin, which combined Indian classical and jazz influences. His projects such as Remember Shakti and Planet Drum are recognized for their unique innovative skills.

Ustad Zakir Hussain has scored music for films like ‘Heat and Dust’, ‘Saaz’, ‘Manto’ etc.  as well as international ballet. Ustad Zakir Hussain has earned many accolades for his immense contribution to classical music and spreading the use of table around the globe. Ustad Zakir Hussain has been awarded with Padma Bhushan, Padma Shri, and the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary World Music Album for ‘Planet Drum’.
