Legendary singer Pankaj Udhas passes away

Legendary singer Pankaj Udhas, known for popular ghazals like ‘thodi thodi piya karo’, chandi jaisa ran hai tera tera’ and songs like "Chitthi Aayee Hai," passed away today morning due to prolonged illness. He was 72.

His daughter, Nayaab Udhas, announced his demise on Instagram. Pankaj Udhas was a popular phenomenon during his times, the Padma Shri awardee made significant contributions to Indian light music.

Pankaj Udhas daughter Nayaab Udhas wrote, " With a very heavy heart, we are saddened to inform of sad demise of Padmashri Pankaj Udhas on 26th February 2024 due to prolonged illness.".

Known for his contribution to popularise ghazals with his successful albums like "Aahat", "Mukarar," "Tarrannum,", "Mehfil."

His song from the movie Naam’ "Chitthi Aayee Hai" became a national anthem during his times.

Pankaj Udhas also sang the hit song ‘Jeeye Toh Jeeye Kaise’ from Sajan starring Sanjay Dutt and Salman Khan.

Pankaj Udhas was bestowed with Padma Shri in 2006.
