Oscars 2022 unacceptable blunder: In Memoriam section fails to pay tribute to legends Dilip Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar
Unfortunately the memories of Oscars 2022 will be of shame, blunder and pity.
The Will Smith slap/punch episode was not enough, the erstwhile coveted Academy awards this time failed to pay tribute to Dilip Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar – India’s iconic legends institutions in their own.
Dilip Kumar passed away on July 7 2021, Lata Mangeshkar died on February 6, 2022.
The Oscars 2022 In Memoriam section pays tribute to the loved and significant members of the global film industry who left for heavenly abode.
This time the segment had no mention of the legendary actor an inspiration for generations after generations Dilip Kumar and the swar kokila of India Lata Mangeshkar lovingly called Lata Didi
Dilip Kumar is hailed as the pioneer of the subtle acting in Indian cinema – the ‘therav’ and is known for Mughal working in unforgettable Indian movies like Mughal E Azam, Devdas, Naya Daur etc. The Indian government bestowed Dilip Kumar with honours like Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award.
Lata Mageshkar was the recipient of Bharat Ratna, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award.
Earlier, the Academy had featured Irrfan Khan, Bhanu Athaiya, Sushant Singh Rajput and Rishi Kapoor in its In Memoriam section.
Fans and people in general have expressed their displeasure on social media sites . One wrote, “#Oscars2022 #LataMangeshkar of #Bollywood fame – Nightingale of India – not even mentioned among the movie folks who passed away in the last year.”
One Twitter user said, “Lata gave vocals to more songs than “shown in all Oscars combined”.” Yet, the #Oscars2022 #Inmemoriam did not see it fit to honor her even with a mention. Sometimes, I think, colonialism still lives on…”
