Bollywood since decades has a long history of one actor/star’s loss becoming another actor’s gain. And this one where Ajay Devgn benefited and won nominations for the popular Filmfare and the respected National Awards is something very special.

Yes, Ajay Devgn – Bollywood’s undisputable dark horse has shown in caliber in intense roles in movie like ‘Zakhm’ (1998) for which he won the National Award in the best actor category.

And in the very next year in 1999, Ajay Devgn again made it to the national award nominations in the best actor award category for the film – ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’. Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s 1999 cult musical love story starring Salman Khan, Ajay Devgn, and Aishwarya Rai.

‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’ was based on Aashtriyashayar Jhaverchand Meghani's play ‘Shetal ne Kathe’ and 1983’s musical drama ‘Woh Saath Din’ starring Anil Kapoor, Padmini Kolhapure and Naseeruddin Shah.

‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’ made a lasting impact on the audience who were blown away by the passion, drama, colour and music of the film. The prime characters Nandini played by Aishwarya Rai, Sameer (the hawa ka jhoka) played by Salman Khan and of course Vanraj played by Ajay Devgn.

Ajay Devgn with his simplicity, honesty and unparallel love for his wife Nandini made a special place in every viewer’s heart.

Do you know that before Ajay Devgn, Sanjay Leela Bhansali approached Aamir Khan, Shahrukh Khan and Akshay Kumar for the role of ‘Vanraj’ and when things didn’t materialize with them, Bhansali opted for Ajay Devgn which turned out to be one of Ajay Devgn’s most memorable role of his career.
