Selfiee day one collection: Not only shocking but an embarrassing eye opener, experts speak
Has Akshay Kumar lost his pull. Is Emraan Hashmi no longer a safe bet.
The opening day collection of Selfiee – the official remake of 2019 Malayalam film Driving Licence starring Akshay Kumar, Emraan Hashmi with Diana Penty and Nushrratt Bharuccha is a shockingly embarrassing 2.5 crore as per trade reports.
The Raj Mehta directed film produced by Dharma Productions, Magic Frames, Prithviraj Productions, Cape of Good Films and Star Studios is a washout right from day one.
Interestingly the original 2019 Malayalam film Driving Licence starring Prithviraj Sukumaran and Suraj Venjaramoodu reportedly made at a budget of 4 crores earned 22+ crores.
So, what went wrong with this star v/s fan tussle the touted revival of Akshay Kumar’s dying fortunes in the Hindi film industry.
Renowned trade analyst Narendra Gupta says, “ Selfiee is Akshay Kumar’s worst day one collection. The movie has opened with an utter disastrous figure of 2.5 crores”.
“Remakes don’t run, audience need something fresh and not a remake, but Bollywood fails to learn. Vikram Vedha is a good example”. Selfiee is not a good remake as well. He adds.
When quipped on then why Drishyam 2 starring Ajay Devgn became a money spinner, Narendra Gupta says, “First of all people wanted to watch Drishyam 2, it has generated that curiosity level and equally important is the fact that the Hindi version of Drishyam 2 was not available, though they pushed it but immediately held it back and that created wonders”.
Certainly, the opening day collection of Selfiee should work as an eye opener for the Hindi film industry commonly called Bollywood. Reports of shows getting cancelled on Friday and the shocking rejection at the mass centres is nothing less than a horror for an established star like Akshay Kumar and a banner like Dharma Production.
Boycott Remake. Make Original Dear Bollywood.
