Veteran filmmaker Sawan Kumar Tak passes away
Veteran filmmaker Sawan Kumar Tak has passed away in Mumbai due to a heart attack today in Mumbai. He was 86.
Sawan Kumar Tak’s nephew Navin – a Punjabi film producer, told indianexpress.com, “Sawan ji suffered a heart attack at around 4:15 pm today. He died of multiple organ failure. The funeral will be held today evening.”
Sawan Kumar Tak was admitted to Mumbai’s Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital on August 24. According to his nephew Navin Sawan Kumar had ‘several health ailments’ and his lungs were weak. “He has several health ailments. He is critical. We got him admitted to Kokilaben Ambani hospital yesterday and he is in the ICU. His lungs are weak too because of old-age. Doctors are treating him, but he is not responding much and is not recovering properly. So we are all praying for him,”
Sawan Kumar Tak is known for his social dramas like Souten (1983), Saajan Ki Saheli (1981), Saajan Bina Suhagan (1978), Sanam Bewafa (1991) etc. Sawan Kumar’s first film as a producer was the 1967 film Naunihal. Sawan Kumar’s last directorial was Saawan… The Love Season (2006) starring Salman Khan, the movie received a special mention at the National Film Awards. Sawan Kumar also directed Hawas 1976 starring Anil Dhawan and Bindu. The song ‘Teri Galiyon Mein Na Rakheinge Kadam’ is an evergreen number used in the modern cult Andhadhun.
