Bollywood Legend Manoj Kumar aka Bharat Kumar is no more
India has lost its on screen ‘Bharat’. Legendary actor, filmmaker Manoj Kumar popularly known as Bharat Kumar is no more. Manoj Kumar breathed his last at a private hospital in Mumbai today early morning at 3:30 am. He was 87.
Manoj Kumar’s son Kunal Goswami, confirmed the news to ANI and said that he died at around 3.30 am after battling health-related issues for a long time. The actor's body will be kept at his residence in Juhu.
Born as Harikrishnan Giri Goswami in 1937 in Abbottabad (now in Pakistan), Manoj Kumar and his family shifted to Delhi during the Partition, Manoj Kumar made his Bollywood debut in 1957 with the film, 'Fashion Brand’ after a series of failures and struggle for almost five years, Manoj Kumar tasted success with Vijay Bhatt's ‘Hariyali Aur Rasta’ opposite Mala Sinha in 1962.
Manoj Kumar made his directorial debut in 1967 with ‘Upkar’ set in the backdrop of the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965, ‘Upkar’ starred Manoj Kumar, Prem Chopra, Asha Parekh, Kamini Kaushal, Pran, and Madan Puri.
‘Upkar’ won seven Filmfare Awards including Best Film
Manoj Kumar turned to patriotic themes after ‘Upkar’’s success and went on to made message-oriented films with patriotic themes like ‘Purab Aur Paschim’ (1970), ‘Shor’ (1972), ‘Roti Kapada Aur Makaan’ (1974), ‘Kranti’ (1981), ‘Clerk’ (1989) etc.
Manoj Kumar was honored with Padma Shri in 1992 and Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2015
As per reports, Manoj Kumar’s cremation will take place at Pawan Hans Crematorium on Saturday.
"It's the grace of the god that he bid adieu to this world peacefully. His cremation will take place tomorrow.", Manoj Kumar’s son Kunal Goswami has been quoted by ANI.
