Yaariyan 2 review: Sweet, Heartfelt and Touching Adage On Love And Friendship

What:  Yaariyan 2 – the sequel to the 2014 super hit Yaariyan by Divya Khosla Kumar digs into desire, love, aspirations in relationships and more in the version directed by Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru.

Yaariyan 2 movie synopsis

Yaariyan 2 is a story of Laadli Chibber (Divya Khosla Kumar) and her bond with her inseparable cousins Shikhar Randhawa (Meezaan Jafri) and Bajrang Das Kahtri (Pearl V Puri). How Laadli, Shikhar and Bajrang fight their battles that includes Laadli’s stuck -  up corporate husband Abhay Singh Katyal (Yash Das Gupta), Meezan’s love Ikrooh Awasthi ( Anaswara Rajan), Bajrang’s love Sona (Warina Hussain). How things change in the lives of all these after the marriage of Laadli to Abhay and she comes to Mumbai and finds her dear cousins also shifted to the city of dreams.

Yaariyan 2 movie review

A story of seven individuals in the city of dreams – Mumbai fighting their personal battles inside and outside and becoming a band of bond by providing helping hand and support to each other is a lovely and touching idea.

Director duo Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru in the story by Muhammad Asif Ali in their remake of the 2014 Malayalam coming of age winner Banglore Days by Anjali Menon that starred Nivin Pauly, Nazriya Nazim, Dulquer Salmaan and Fahadh Faasil stay loyal to the coming of age freshness and emotions.

Music videos and Sanam Teri Kasam fame director duo Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru successfully establish the bonding between the sibling cousins and their love story too has touchy heartfelt moments that makes this sequel an emotional ride.

The first half takes time and I found the second half packed with genuine emotions that make you feel for the characters and can make the eyes of the audience moist for a while.

The changing equations between the prime characters due to circumstances and the camaraderie between the sibling cousins makes the day.

Yaariyan 2 is a clean family movie outing with no cuss words, skin show etc.

However, I didn’t like the weird reason for not eating non veg in that scene which slyly promoted vegan.

Performance

Divya Khosla Kumar is charming throughout. The actress is very natural in her emotions. Endearing performance.

Yash Dasgupta in his debut as Abhay Singh Katyal gets a touching back up story and he is really good in tense emotional scenes. A talent to look out for.

Meezaan Jafri as Shikhar Randhawa is fabulous. Meezaan has the look and can excel in intense oriented roles.

Anaswara Rajan in her Hindi debut as Ikrooh Awasthi gives a touching portrayal and the actress has the subtlety in her performance.

Warina Hussain as Shona looks gorgeous and gives justice to her role.

Priya Prakash Varrier as Devi has an important role that brings the turning point and she is quite natural.

Pearl V Puri as Bajrang Das Khatri in his debut brings the innocence in the bonding between the sibling cousins and he makes his presence felt. Good debut.

Good support comes from Lillete Dubey, Murali Sharma, Usha Subramanian Saksena, Bhagyashree Bose and Sudhir Pandey.

Technicalities

Rich production values. Cinematography by Ravi Yadav is eye candy and colourful. Editing by Abhishek Kumar Singh is decent. Music by Manan Bhardwaj, Khaalif, Rahim Shah and Yo Yo Honey Singh may not be at par with the super hit Yaariyan like the original Sunny Sunny, Allah Waariyan but Sunny Sunny 2.0 creates the recall value. Numbers like Oonchi Oonchi Deewarein, blue hai paani are good. Background Score by JAM8 is effective.

Final words

Yaariyan 2 is sweet, heartfelt and touching adage on love and friendship. If you are looking for a decent movie on love friendship and relationship in pure mainstream format then Yaariyan 2 is for you and your family.
