Stree 2 review: Maddock horrorverse gets bigger, scarier and more ambitious

What: Stree 2 – The “Avengers’ Of Chanderi - Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, Abhishek Banerjee, Aparshakti Khurana and Pankaj Tripathi in the ‘Stree’ (2018), ‘Bala’ (2019) and ‘Bhediya’ (2022) fame director Amar Kaushik gets bigger, scarier and more ambitious.

Stree 2 movie synopsis

Writer Niren Bhatt begins the highly awaited sequel of the 2018 cult ‘Stree’ from where it ended. A headless terror had created havoc in Chanderi. The headless demon targets and kidnaps forward thinking women. People of Chanderi feel that these women might have left the town and moved to bigger cities. But one day, the belief changes when the girlfriend of Bittu (Aparshakti Khurana) – Chitti gets kidnapped by the headless demon – Sarkata. Rudra (Pankaj Tripathi) receives a letter that contains missing pages of the ‘Chanderi Puraan’, meanwhile the nameless Shraddha Kapoor comes back and using tips from Chanderi Puran, Vicky (Rajkummar Rao), Bittu, and Jana (Abhishek Banerjee) form a team of ‘Chanderi Ke Avengers’ to finish the ‘aatank of sarkata’.

Stree 2 movie review

Taking a very little leaf from Tim Burton’s 1999 gothic supernatural horror ‘Sleepy Hollow’ that starred Johnny Depp and Christina Ricci, it was the ‘headless horseman’ in the American film and here we have a creepy headless male kidnapping forward thinking females.

Director Amar Kaushik and Niren Bhatt’s quirky and twisted screenplay fantastically use ‘Stree’ characters created by Raj and DK. However, the sequel has less laughter and more scares, the primary characters – Vicky, Bittu, Rudra Jane and of course the nameless wonder Shraddha Kapoor cute adorability charms the audience throughout and makes up mostly for the lack of laughter as compared with the original cult ‘Stree’.

Hilarious dialogues like “Amitabh Bachchan le lo aur uske kandhe par Aamir Kahn ko rakh do phir bhi yeh dono uski kamar tak hi pahucheinge”. The pleasing pun on source movies and the lovable madness run along with the scary creepy terror of the ‘sarkata’.

Technically better with Justin Varghese solid background score, Jishnu Bhattacharjee’s excellent cinematography and Hemanti Sarkar’s perfect editing. Sachin Jijar do come out with two good numbers – “Aayi Nai” and "Tumhare Hi Rahenge Hum".

Another significant part is the way link up with ‘Bhediya is done, Maddock horrorverse has just began, the striking cameo of Varun Dhawan and Akshay Kumar in this hororverse makes it worth the bet. Women empowerment is also touched upon.

The actors give their best in this 149-minute of mad quirky, scary, no brainer mayhem.

Rajkummar Rao is in top form.

Shraddha Kapoor is at her alluring best

Abhishek Banerjee is fabulous

Pankaj Tripathi a delight dobara

Aparshakti Khurana is fantastic.

Good support comes from Sunita Rajwar, Mushtaq Khan, Anya Singh as Chitti

Cameos by Tamannaah Bhatia, Varun Dhawan and Akshay Kumar are striking

Stree 2 – final words

‘Stree 2’ the sequel to the 2018 cult ‘Stree’ may not be that hilarious and fails to attain the cult status dobara but the establishment of the Maddock’s horrorverse is hopeful of Stree coming tibara with the lovable bhediya hamara.

Nevertheless, in spite with his set of laws, the sequel to ‘Stree’ has enough to make you laugh, shiver as the sequel does deliver in making the viewer have fun and entertainment dobara.
