Rosh movie review: Yesh Raj is a good find in this ambitious thriller
What: Rosh – starring Mahaakshay Chakraborty, Nikita Soni, Alina Rai and Yesh Raj by Jayveer Panghaal is an ambitious thriller
Rosh movie synopsis
The movie opens with a suicide of a businessman and cuts to a party were Ronika (Nikita Soni), Alina (Alina Rai), and Rajat (Mahaakshay Chakraborty) are having a blast at a pub. Someone plays mischief and Ronika’s dress gets spoiled. Rajat, Alina and Ronika move towards Rajat house and on the way, they knock off a bike rider.
Its Ronika’s birthday and cake has been ordered, Ganesh (Yesh Raj) is the delivery boy. Ganesh requests to use the bathroom and something unexpected happens between Ganesh, Ronika, Alina and Rajat that leads to revelation of dangerous secrets and more.
A visit of an unknown delivery guy resulting in a deadly exposure of secrets and a life-threatening struggle for survival. Jayveer Panghaal’s Rush should have been titled ‘Happy Birthday’ or Knock Knock, the delivery guy is at the door’.
Anyhow, I must say that the subject of ‘Rush’ is such a dynamite. It’s thrilling, chilling & emotional with a rare dark tone. The delivery guy Ganesh played by Yesh Raj gives you goose bumps and Yash is a good find.
One more script polish and Rosh could have been far better. Its good no doubt but could have been something extraordinary.
Made on a modest budget with most of the action in one single room, Rosh is nicely mounted. It’s a unique combo of the 2018 Akshay Akkineni’s horror Pizza and Ram Gopal Varma’s 1999 psychological thriller Kaun.
The classic Hitchcockian format, A survivor or a killer, hunter at one point, getting hunted at another, Rosh is a decent thriller with dark tone laced with a message.
Liberties are at will and I am not very convinced on unveiling of one of its key elements.
But yes, overall in those 1 hour and 57 mins mystery is maintained.
After Yesh, its Mahaakshay Chakraborty who makes an impression. From the girls – the lookalike of Katrina Kaif - Alina Rai is fine. Nikita Soni has her moments. Ruchi Tiwari is okay.
So sad to see a talent like Vrajesh Hirjee getting wasted
Final words
All said and done, Rosh if given in the hands of experts like Shreeram Raghavan etc, would have been something extraordinary. But doesn’t take any credit back from Jayveer Panghaal in delivering a decent thriller that has a good find in the actor Yesh.
