Mufasa: The Lion King (Hindi) review: likeable but not lovable
What: ‘Mufasa: The Lion King’ – the story of simba ka papa by ‘Moonlight’ fame Barry Jenkins in the prequel of 2019 ‘The Lion King’ is likeable but not lovable.
Mufasa: The Lion King movie synopsis
Rafiki (Makarand Deshpande) is telling the story of Mufasa to the young lion cub Kiara, daughter of Simba and Nala, with Timon (Shreyas Talpade) and Pumbaa (Sanjay Mishra), lending their familiar humour.
The movie moves in flashbacks and introduces Mufasa as an orphaned cub, lost during a flood and rescued by a lion named Taka (Meiyang Chang).
What follows after is a journey of self believe and discovery of roots.
Mufasa: The Lion King movie (Hindi) review
The voiceovers are excellent. Shah Rukh Khan leads the way through his subtle and nuanced baritone. Aryan Khan is charming as Simba. Sanjay Mishra and Shreyas Talpade as Pumbaa and Timon are entertaining. Makarand Deshpande as Rafiki is good. Meiyang Chang as Taka is fabulous. And Abram as the cub Mufasa is so cute.
The visuals are breathtaking. The sprawling forests shimmer under golden sunrises, the flowing waterfalls and moonlit grasslands are simply amazing. Every frame is a beauty.
But the prequel lacks those sweeping moments which made ‘The Lion King’ so adorably memorable. ‘Mufasa’ is likable but not lovable. The music is also a major disappointment.
It’s at the most a serviceable prequel, however the fans will adore more and the experience in Imax is worth your money in spite of its flaws.
‘Mufasa: The Lion King’ is running in theatres near you.
