Let’s Meet Movie Review: An Honest, Finely Acted and Touching Love Story
What: ‘Lets Meet’ – juxtaposing the age-old feeling of love with Gen Z chats, coined by fine performances, ‘Let’s Meet’ depicts an honest, touching picture of love and responsibility.
Let’s Meet movie synopsis
Nikhil (Tanuj Virwani) an ambitious actor dreams of making it big in the global arena and Riya Sharma (Suman Rana) a finance wizard. Both get connected through on a social media platform.
After initial chats, slowly it turns into video conversations. However, Riya has hidden her identity and is chatting in the name of Priya and has a dp with mask on. Nikhil is vocal about his liking and affection towards her which is slowly developing into love, while Riya is shy to disclose her feelings.
Nikhil attempts to convince Riya for a meeting gets politely rejected by Riya. Nikhil is getting desperate to meet Riya. What happens next? Will Riya aka Priya meet Nikhil, what will happen when they meet? The movie answers all the questions.
‘Let’s Meet’ – normally a movie with such a title and looking at the face of it creates a picture that a handsome man and a gorgeous women will connect through social media, they will meet and later some complications will arrive.
But surprisingly, writer director Ravinder (Ricky) Sandhu, does the unexpected and spins a heartfelt yarn that rekindles the old school feeling of love through online chats (no kabootar, no letters and no romantic songs shot on picturesque alps, beaches etc).
Simply confining the lead pairs - Tanuj Virwani and Suman Rana in the comfort of their homes and making the audience to fall in love with them through their normal chats is not an ordinary task. It needs better conviction powers to establish such emotions and Ravinder (Ricky) Sandhu does it successfully.
I felt a sort of tribute to the silent era (no am not kidding) during the conversations between Tanuj and Suman as you can see their expressions and read what they have written in the chats. Again, a surprisingly rare feeling.
So, is ‘Let’s Meet’ a cult classic, a modern-day masterpiece on love?
Well, the answer could have been yes, if Ravinder (Ricky) Sandhu could have come straight to the point early and not wasting unnecessary time in those pointless scenes in the beginning, the entire crazy girl part, a brief introduction of the leads was enough, considering the theme of the film which is beyond the regular run of the mill. Only when the chatting between Tanuj and Suman begins, ‘Lets Meet’ finds its groove and thankfully never leaves it.
Ravinder (Ricky) Sandhu had the opportunity to go further deep and add more layers but he misses this bus. Anyhow, the core emotion is felt and I was touched.
Performances
Tanuj Virwani exudes charm and has the boy next door vibes, he does a fine job as Nikhil as ambitious actor who falls in love with a woman online.
Suman Rana looks pretty and does justice to her role.
