Ishq Vishk Rebound review: Charming, Amusing, Heartwarming
What: ‘Ishq Vishk Rebound’ – is a charming, amusing and heartwarming reboot to the 2003 breezy rom com ‘Ishq Vishq’
Ishq Vishk Rebound movie synopsis
Story of three BFF - Rohit Saraf, Pashmina Roshan, and Jibraan Khan. Pashmina is dating Jibraan and Rohit is the permanent ‘kabaab mein haddi’ till he meets Naila Grrewal. Pashmina and Jibraan say ‘sorry’ more than ‘I love you’ as they enter into some argument or the another.
Rohit becomes the peace maker every time, things change suddenly when one day Rohit and Pashima kiss each other creating confusion between friendship and love.
Before kissing Pashima, Naila has broken with Rohit.
Those between eighteen to twenty-two may find similarities with the plot, it might be their or their friend’s story. Marathi filmmaker Nipun Dharmadhikari (award winning Dhappa and co director Netflix India Original show Mismatched previous) is bang on in getting the feel, atmosphere and confusion about love and friendship amongst Gen X right.
‘Ishq Vishk Rebound’ is youthful and amusing. Rohit Saraf leads the way and charms throughout; his fans will enjoy every moment of ‘Ishq Vishk Rebound’.
While ‘Ishq Vishq’ was set around college campus, ‘Ishq Vishq Rebound’ is about youngsters who have passed the college phase and are thinking about their careers.
“‘Ishq Vishq Rebound’ is not about falling in love for the first time, it’s about the understanding of love and bonding”, this might be the idea behind Nipun Dharmadhikari and his team of writers Vaishali Naik, Vinay Chhawal, Ketan Pedgaonkar, Akarsh Khurana and Lisa Bajaj (dialogues) and Nipun Dharmadhikari ( (additional screenplay).
I wonder what was going in the minds of the writing team who couldn’t think beyond the confusion and humor part. There is no depth and layers are forcefully added. For example, a dialogue by Sheeba Chaddha’s character who explains the probable reason behind Rohit’s parents playing games all the time but afsoos the trick to manipulate us didn’t work. Plus, the subtle women empowerment where a mother shares Rum with her daughter is forced.
The problem with ‘Ishq Vishq Rebound’ is similar to the dilemma of Rohit – when the movie is lighthearted and friendly its fun and when it tries to get serious it fails.
Another drawback is showing broken families without any background and why Pashima and Jibraan both are facing daddy issues?!...
Rochak Kohli’s music doesn’t has a single take home.
However, the acting department scores handsomely.
The movie belongs to Rohit Saraf who is adorable right from frame one and wins heart.
Pashmina Roshan shows promise and she needs more polishing to become a better actor.
Jibraan Khan makes his presence felt in his debut.
Naila Grrewal has her moments.
Good support comes from Supriya Pilgaonkar and
Sheeba Chaddha.
