Fateh review

Sonu Sood’s directorial debut is ‘John Wick’ meets ‘Kill Bill’ meets ‘Animal’ and so on. The world building over here ranges from a village in Punjab to digital dens of cyber-crime gangsters played by Naseeruddin Shah and Vijay Raaz. There are rooms filled with screens where virus gets loaded and transferred to bank accounts resulting in money getting debited from these accounts. These ‘dhandali’ (fraud) is solved by a stylized, hyperreal action thriller filled with blood that serves the purpose for a diehard action buff.

Fight coordinator - Federico Berte, fight choreographer - Filip Ciprian Florian, action director – Lee Whittaker, R.P Yadav and Sunil Yadav ensure that the hard-core action lover is in for a ‘bloody’ treat. Vincenzo Condorelli marvelous cinematography and fabulous background by Hans Zimmer and John Stewart Eduri enhance the thrills and make it appear like an international action thriller.

Sonu Sood as a director makes a fine debut, he knows his audience and gives them what they want. Inspirations from Tarantino, David Lynch in action sequences is evident. A better script with more emotional connect and faster pace could have expanded the target audience base.

The best moments of ‘Fateh’ come in those bloody, brutal action sequences a couple of them are terrific – the Hotel action sequence, while the action with the masked man where Sonu Sood brutally assaults those men with axe reminded me of Ranbir Kapoor’s Arjan Vailly from Animal.

And yes, at couple of places there are some ‘massy’ dialougebaazi as well. ‘

So, if you have taste for such brutal violence blood and gore than only ‘Fateh’ is your cup of tea.

Performance

Sonu Sood is fabulous in action scenes and does very well.

Jacqueline Fernandez as Khushi has her moments.

Vijay Raaz is as usual, same for Naseeruddin Shah and

Dibyendu Bhattacharya. Prakash Belawadi is there for very less time.

Shiv Jyoti Rajput as Nimrit Kaur makes a good impression.

Fateh review – final words

‘Fateh’ is an example that if you have good solid bloody action than plot may not be that important. It’s all about action and has some real kickass stuff for the action enthusiasts. Sonu Sood is the ‘bloody’ new action director of Bollywood.

Going with three stars

An extra for the action choreography and back ground score.

Fateh distributed by Zee Studios and produced by Shakti Sagar Productions and Zee Studios is running in theatres from Jan 10, 2025.

Pls note: The movie is rated ‘A’ for violence and bloodshed.
