Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha movie review : ‘Dilwale’ Dubai Chale Jayeinge?, Ki Dulhaniya Le Jayeinge?!

What: ‘Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha’ – Neeraj Pandey’s attempt to try a quintessential musical love story starring Ajay Devgn and Tabu with his favorite Jimmy Sheirgill for a cameo leaves us wanting for more.

Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha review

Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha’ – after heist, thrillers, sports biopic, Neeraj Pandey tries his hand in a quintessential musical love story with moderate action and attains partial success.

Rekindling the 90’s nostalgia, the world of pagers and public telephones, that good old feeling of a middle-class boy falling in love with a neighborhood girl. The exchanges of vibes through eyes and smiles etc.

Undoubtedly, the narration of Neeraj Pandey is poetic, the songs by the renowned Oscar fame music director M. M. Keeravani are soothing, the lyrics by Manoj Muntashir are meaningful.

But unfortunately, all the poetry, nostalgia, love, romance etc fails to register as the proceedings lack that ‘feeling’.

No matter how much you use the slight slow-motion technique with good to hear and ear music playing in the background but to your utter disbelieve Neeraj Pandey fails in infusing that rousing feeling of love.

The nonlinear approach blended with that ‘Roshomon’ effect of that fateful night incident confirms Neeraj Pandey’s forte in thrillers. But he falters in making us falling in love with Krishna and Vasudha in ‘Auro Mein Kaha Dum Tha’ and that is the problem. The ‘core’ emotion is unable to ‘touch’ the audience the way it should have.

Anyways, the actors give their best, Ajay Devn is intensity personified, Tabu is amazingly natural, Jimmy Sheirgill effortless in his cameo, Jay Upadhyay as Krishna’s friend has its moments. Shantanu Maheshwari as young Krishna is effectively charming while Saiee Manjrekar as young Vasudha leaves an impression.

Technically sound with top production values, excellent cinematography by Sudheer Palsane, editor Praveen Kathikuloth should have been given a pair of extra scissors. Special mention of the soundtrack and background score by the Oscar fame master musician M. M. Kreem is must. 1.        "Ae Dil Zara" sung by Amala Chebolu, Rishabh Chaturvedi, "Jahan Se Chale The" sung by Sunidhi Chauhan, Jubin Nautiyal, "Kisi Roz" by Maithili Thakur are soulfully sung and soothing.

Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha – final words

Interestingly, the title ‘Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha’ reminds of Ajay Devgn’s iconic lines from the movie Dilwale (1994) which goes like ‘Humko Toh Apno Ne Loota’. Plus the movie also has that iconic song ‘Jeeta Tha Jiske Liye’ from ‘Dilwale’ getting played in the movie and the reaction by Ajay Devgn himself to his friend in the movie not only brought the humour but also confirmed the fatct that this attempted ‘Dilwale’ part 2 by Neeraj Pandey is not working.

Going with 2.5 stars for the acting and music.
